Carpeted in about every shade of green possible, wreathed over by a gauzy stole of thin white mist- Coorg is not just a dream destination of a travel agent but a destination that is a dream come true. Spread in 1,593 square miles of undulating topography Coorg's grounds are ornamented with waterfalls, deep ravines, paddy fields, sloping glades and grassy downs. However the cherry to the cake is added by the crisp air-conditioned weather.

See & Do

Coorg has been well exploited by the honeymooners and is no more a better-kept secret of the south. This hill station is becoming a back-packer's paradise.

Madikeri Fort - This fort was originally a mud fort which was later rebuilt with stone by Tipu Sultan. Inside the fort, there is the palace of Lingayat rulers which is a great reflection of the past.

Raja's Seat - This used to be the the favourite spot of the Kodagu kings where they used to view the many- splendoured sunrises and sunsets. The emerald valleys, parrot-green paddy fields were the other mesmerising views.

Abbi Falls - This beautiful waterfall is about 5 km from Madikeri is a big attraction of the tourists and the filmdom. The chirping of innumerable birds which are easier heard then seen, fill the air with sweet music.

Omkareshwara Temple - Built by Kodagu King Lingaraja in 1820, this temple is very significant for its shape and style. The central dome and four minarets look quite impressive. A large tank in front of the temple enhances the beauty and the serenity of the entire atmosphere.

Adventure Freak

Get those boots on and get moving, because Coorg is a trekker's paradise. One can enjoy trekking up and down the hills, through coffee and pepper plantations, alongside the graceful Cauvery and myriad little streams. Trekking can make your tummy disappear, muscles toned up and skin glow. Fishing is also a popular indulgence here.

Take Aways

Coorg is not a typical shopping destination. There are many shops that offer fine quality local produce like cardamom, pepper and honey. One can also pick fresh and delicious oranges in seasons.

Stomach's Delight

The inherited beauty of the wondrous land of Coorg will get subdued if one plans to ramble across the place empty stomach. In Coorg there is no dearth of good and affordable eating places. The Kodavas have a way with pork ( pandi curry ), fowl ( koli curry ) and mango and their akki rotis and kadumbuttus are a treat. Rice and pork is the staple diet here.

Local food specialities are - Pandhi, Koli and bembla curry, kadumbuttu, noolputu, voti and excellent coffee.

A Toast To Climate

Coorg experiences a moderate climate, where winters are cool and pleasant having a temperature of about 15-20 degree Celsius. Though during December- February the minimum temperature may go down to 9 degree Celsius. Summers are only slightly warm at 25-35 degrees Celsius. In the monsoons the rainfall is really heavy.
