The huge grassy , cup shaped meadow, ringed by fir trees and snowy peaks makes Gulmarg one of the most wannabe destinations for the tourists. Once a favourite haunt of the Mughal emperor Jehangir, Gulmarg today is not merely a tourist spot but also has the highest green golf course in the world.

Gulmarg is undoubtedly one of the most captivating hill stations of India and is truly blessed by Mother Nature. On a tour to Gulmarg one can have a great deal of sightseeing, especially the view of the Himalayan range and Kashmir valley.

Alpather Lake - This beautiful lake lies across the Apharwat peak and remains frozen even during summers.

Shrine Of Baba Reshi - You can also pay a visit to the shrine of a Muslim mystic saint, Baba Reshi while your trip to Gulmarg.

Things To do

Gulmarg enjoys a unique place because of Skiing. One can hire all the equipment needed, such as skis and sticks, snow boots, mufflers, woolen socks, jackets, goggles, etc here. One can take skiing lessons from ski instructors. However the best time for skiing is between November- February.

Golf - The golf course here is said to be the highest in the world and till 1990 it was the venue of the prestigious state championship. Visitors can enjoy golf by obtaining a short term membership

Trekking - Gulmarg's highest peak , the Affarwat is very popular for the treks. The long trek from the Ferozepur Nala to Danwas, Tejjan to Samaidan is one of the most enjoyable walks.

Horse Ridding - A tourist can also enjoy the activity of horse riding by hiring a horse directly or through the tourist office.

Sledging - A flat wooden board is taken up the hilltop and, without a navigator, allowed to slide downhill on the snow-covered slopes. This proves to be a very exciting activity.

You can experience a unique style of shopping when in Gulmarg. If you are staying in a houseboat, you don't need to move as your shopping would come to you in Shikaras. You can buy semi-precious stones, saffron, shawls, embroidered linen, or decorative items in walnut wood. Gulmarg is also popular for pherans, carpets and jewellery.

The Changing wind

Gulmarg experiences a specific and unique climate and have milder weather conditions. Even in the summers he nights are pleasantly cool and the temperature can vary from 25 degree C to 35 degree C. In winters the temperature may drop to minus 10 degree C. Heavy woollen clothing is required in Gulmarg.
