Alluring Sights
Mussoorie is an excellent respite for tourists and
people who want relief from the hot sultry conditions of the plains.
Kempty Fall -This is one of the finest waterfalls in India. From a
great height water cascades down a hill and dives straight into a plunge
pool. There is a dense vegetation in the area and one can enjoy spectacular
sights around.
Gun Hill - The Gun Hill is the second highest peak in
Mussoorie and offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan range like the
Srikantha, Pitwara and Gangotri. During the colonial rule, the hill had a
gun mounted on top of it, from there it got the name Gun hill. It is at a
distance of 400 m and can be accessed by a rope way.
St. George Everest House - Sir George Everest was the first Surveyor
General of India and it was after him that the highest mountain peak in the
world was named. The place offers a picturesque view of the Doon Valley.
Cloud's End - Built in the 1830's this beautiful destination is a
hot favourite of the tourists and is very popular among the starry eyed
honeymooners. The place has a treasure of variety of flora and fauna and is
enveloped by dense deodar forest .
Lal Tibba - This is the highest spot in Mussoorie. A visitor can get
a picturesque view of the beautiful valleys and snow-clad peaks from here.
It is also the oldest inhabited place in Mussoorie and is located in the
Landhour area. The Municipal Corporation of Mussoorie had ordered a Japanese
Telescope which is placed on Lal Tibba. Through this telescope one can have
a lovely view of many peaks.
Municipal Garden - It is picnic spot having a beautiful garden and
an artificial mini lake with paddled boating facility. These gardens were
laid by famous geologist Dr. H. Fackner in the last century. Visitors enjoy
to their fullest here and get a cool break from the rush of the city life.
Camel's Back Road - This road starts from Rink in Kurli bazaar and
goes upto Library Bazaar. The name is Camel Back because of a life size rock
here that very much resembles a camel. Horse riding and walking during
evening is a memorable experience as it offers a sunset view in the
Himalayas.
Nag Devta Temple - This ancient temple is dedicated to Snake God
Lord Shiva. The place provides an enchanting view of Mussoorie and Doon
Valley.
Mussoorie Lake - This newly developed lake has become an important
picnic spot. It also offers an enchanting view of the Doon Valley and nearby
areas.
Adventurous Hitch
Mussoorie is a must check for all the adventure
seekers as well as the nature lovers. A tourist here can enjoy roller
Skating as there are disparate roller skating rings. Long walks amidst the
beauty and serenity of nature is the other important means to explore the
treasure of nature. For more adventure on can enjoy walks to the Benog Hill
and the Lal Tibba. Mussoorie also happens to be a comfortable base for the
trekkers. You may check out the Gangotri, Yamunotri, the Black Peak,
Har-ki-Doon and other treks in the Garhwal Himalayas and into nearby
Himachal Pradesh.
Further ahead from Mussoorie you may reach the Aglar River and the Yamuna
River. Both the Rivers offer ample opportunities for trout fishing. You may
seek permits from the Divisional Forest Officer of Mussoorie in advance.

One can carry a huge range and collection of goods of beauty and use. This
hill station is famous for wooden decorative and gift items. Wooden boxes,
brass statues, ceramic vases, Tibetan Prayer wheels and hand carved oakwood
walking stick are quite popular among the tourists. Pure Ladakhi Shawls are
bit costly but are worth a good purchase here. The antique Jamawar Shawls
carry heavy price tags but they are worth having a look if not being
purchased. One can find rosy cheeked Tibetans selling woolens, imported
goods, fabric wall hangings, Tibetan metal ware , trays, bowls, cane
baskets, jewellery and many more stuffs.
