Udai Singh the founder of the city, during his hunting expeditions met a
holy man on meditation on a hill overlooking the Lake Pichhola. The holy man
blessed the king and advised him to build a palace at this favourable spot
with a fertile valley and an amphitheater of low mountains. The king
followed the advise of the hermit and founded the city in 1559 A.D.
