Owned by the Ananda Bazar Patrika Limited (an enterprise of Ananda
Publishers), The Telegraph is a Kolkata based broadsheet English newspaper.
In a brief period of around 25 years, The Telegraph has reached a position
where it is now considered the largest circulated English daily in the
eastern region of India. It is infact giving a tough competition to other
newspapers of the market in the region. According to the Audit Bureau of
Circulations, the newspaper is the fastest growing daily (in terms of
circulation) in eastern India.
Apart from Kolkata, The Telegraph is also published from Guwahati (covering
the entire northeast), Siliguri (for Sikkim and North Bengal), Jamshedpur
and Ranchi (for the state of Jharkhand). The newspaper offers elaborate
national, international and business news together with other topics that
are both interesting and significant.
Kolkata edition of The Telegraph carries an eight-page colour section
called Metro devoted solely to the city of Kolkata and its people. Metro
appears from Monday to Sunday, covers local news as well as the reports on
the social and cultural events taking place across the city.
The Telegraph has also introduced a sixteen -page colour section called T2
that is primarily devoted to entertainment and lifestyle, which appears from
Monday to Sunday.
History of The Telegraph
Established on 7th July, 1982, The Telegraph is one of the few English

enhance its market share by pulling the readership away from the
Statesman, the paper that dominated the market at that point of time.
